Why would the Bucs trade bay?

The Pirates have been trading veterans for prospects for years now and this is just another example. The Pirates figure it is better to get players that will/could be in Pittsburgh for a while instead of keeping Bay for one more year. The Pirates figure Bay would not re-sign with the Pirates when his contract is up. Anyway, the Pirates are losing with Bay on the team, how much worse can they be without Bay?
