Sodium is mixed with kerosene why?

sodium is a very reactive metal. It is very sensitive to atmosphere. It is not kept in water because on reacting with it, a lot of energy is emitted which is enough for the emitted hydrogen to catch fire. Thus sodium is kept in kerosene.Potium is also similar to it.
