Question about novocaine?

If novocaine causes anxiety, how long does it last and how long until it begins? can novocaine cause vomiting? Is there a different way to get cavities drilled or wisdom teeth pulled without it? I'm always fine until about 6 hours after and then I have a panic attack, but my doctor says it's out of my system by then. Is the anxiety and vomiting all in my head or can it be triggered by the novocaine, even 6 hours later?
