I really like this guy. What should I do???????

I am 14 and in the 8th grade. I like this guy Tyler who is also in 8th grade. We were besties in 4th grade, but back then, when I still thought boys had cooties, I DID NOT like the idea of having a boy as a best friend. When he told me I was his best friend I told him I already had a best friend. We barely talk anymore. Recently, he's gotten more popular and a lot of girls like him. I'm not very popular. I'm friends with him on myspace. I could text him but I'm more afraid to do that than I would be just talking too him, because he might wonder why I'm suddenly texting him. Help?
