How can i fix this paragraph...?

The following harrowing months were filled with extreme sorrow as my beloved father ped away. :-( He had become dangerously malnourished and fell pathetically ill. I was left to care for my poor mother who is too frail and unable to stand on her own. I must also care for my siblings due to my mother’s condition.
